As a young girl growing up in Istanbul, Turkey, Asli loved her country's cuisine, particularly the regional desserts of Gaziantep, where her parents were from. It is famous for its kebabs and sweets, and like all young children, Asli loved sweets. Her mother was a great cook, preparing traditional meals for the family and fabulous desserts! The tantalizing aromas that carried throughout the family home is a wonderful memory for Asli but baking desserts alongside her mother is one of her favorite memories, so Asli wanted to become a baker.
When Asli reached young adulthood, she decided to pursue a medical career and become a physician. It was her love of babies that set her on the path to becoming an
obstetrician/gynecologist. Although her career as an Ob/Gyn was immensely rewarding, it left her with very little time to devote to raising her eight-year-old daughter and two-year-old son.
Good luck shined on Asli when she met Anya, a pastry chef from Ukraine who is the wife of her husband's good friend. Here was the opportunity to have a new career. With the combination of Turkish and Ukrainian pastry recipes and the support of her husband, Deniz, an anesthesiologist, Asli went after her childhood dream. She decided to open a pastry shop with Anya as her chef. The passion she felt as a little girl came to life. With the support of Deniz assisting in the daily operation, Asli was able to have both the career of her childhood dreams and the time to raise her two children. This is how Two Ladies Bakery came to be…
